On June 24, 2006, we invite you to join us as the USDA Forest Service and the University of California dedicate the Sagehen Experimental Forest. The dedication will be hosted by the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station, Tahoe National Forest, and the University of California, Berkeley. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am at the Sagehen Creek Field Station near Truckee, CA. This dedication ceremony will provide an opportunity to meet the research staff involved in the operation of the Experimental Forest and to learn about Sagehen basin’s past successes, current research, and future plans. Tours of the research area and watershed will be available.

With a legacy of discovery spanning more than 50 years, Sagehen basin has established itself as an indispensable location for forest research in the Sierra Nevada and the west. The Sagehen Experimental Forest is located approximately 10 miles north of Truckee, California, and includes the Sagehen Creek Field Station that has been operated by the University of California, Berkeley under special use permit from the Tahoe National Forest since 1951. Sagehen Field Station’s fifty years of research and monitoring draws researchers from universities across the country, as well as government agencies, non-profit institutions, K-12 schools and the general public. PSW brings 75 years of research and long-term data, and one of the goals of this collaboration is to make each institutions’ data more accessible to all who are interested. The designation of the Sagehen Experimental Forest creates California’s 11thexperimental forest, and is the first to be created in California since 1962.

In order to plan for seating, refreshments, and other facilities, please RSVP by May 19th by contacting Mary Orr at (530) 478-6202 or morr@fs.fed.us.
