Transit... Reno, Nevada has a regional airport with regular service from many points. All the major car rental agencies are there as well. The East Bay is roughly a 3 hour drive along I-80 & Hwy-89 if all goes well, but traffic can extend that to shockingly longer. Try to schedule departures [in both directions] to avoid weekend traffic from/to Lake Tahoe & weekday rush hour in the Roseville-Sacramento stretch. Amtrak serves Truckee via the California Zephyr line, though a bus ride is inexplicably often involved. See this link for local bus transit information for the Truckee-Lake Tahoe area. Mt.bikes can work well for travel between Sagehen & Truckee [12-miles each way, including our unpaved access road] if you are an experienced & fit rider. Lodging... Lodging is available on-site at Sagehen, including limited ADA-accessible spaces & bathrooms. Except for limited faculty spaces, Sagehen accomodations are bunkhouse-style (separate boys & girls cabins) & are now heated from roughly November to May; communal bath houses were recently upgraded & include toilets, sinks & showers. Camping is available both at Sagehen & at the USDA Forest Service Sagehen Campground (1.5 miles up the road). The Sagehen camping daily rate is the same as the cabin daily rate, since you will use all of the other facilities as well. Check out our Facilities page for more information about & photos of Sagehen cabins, classrooms & other structures. See this page for Sagehen's current overnight rates. For those who prefer to stay in a hotel, most major chains and many casinos can be found in Reno. Reno is a 30-45 minute drive from the Station on good all-weather highways. The communities on the shore of Lake Tahoe also have many, many private & chain hotels but travel time will be longer over smaller, often congested roads. The closest lake communities are Tahoe City & King's Beach. Truckee is about 10 miles away from Sagehen on good roads. Lodging choices are fewer in Truckee, but here are a few.
