Regional Forester Honor Awards recognize significant contributions to sustaining the US Forest Service mission of sustaining the health, diversity and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands, meeting the needs of present and future generations.
Award categories align with the four outcome-oriented goals in the Forest Service’s Strategic Plan: Sustaining our nation’s forests and grasslands, delivering benefits to the public, applying knowledge globally, and excelling as a high-performing agency.

TCSI is led by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy and the California Tahoe Conservancy, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service Region 5, Tahoe National Forest, Eldorado National Forest, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, National Forest Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, California Forestry Association, USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station, University of California-Natural Reserve System, and UC Berkeley-Sagehen Creek Field Station.
The Sierra Business Council’s Sierra Vision Awards recognize and honor leadership in restoring and invigorating local Sierra Nevada communities, economy, and environment.

The Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD), in partnership with the Sierra Watershed Education Partnership (SWEP) was recognized as a “Green Achiever” school district by the California Department of Education. Sagehen’s Outdoor Education Program was a featured program in the award.
TTUSD was also one of only 6 school districts in the country honored by the U.S. Dept. of Education with a District Sustainability Award for innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education. Again, Sagehen’s Outdoor Education Program was a featured program in the award.

The UC Berkeley, Chancellor’s Outstanding Staff Awards (COSAs) are presented to individual staff members and staff teams who demonstrate exceptional INITIATIVE to create significant positive IMPACT on the UC Berkeley campus community. These awards are among the highest honors bestowed upon staff by the Chancellor. Sagehen is a two-time COSA winner.
In 2006, we won for our successful efforts to rescue Sagehen and return it to vitality. In 2016, the award recognized the Sagehen Forest Project.

The Organization of Biological Field Stations (OBFS) Human Diversity Award provides recognition for unique activities, programs, or approaches (funded or unfunded) that increase the involvement, engagement, and sustainability of underrepresented groups in field science. More info.
