Fishing is allowed in Sagehen Creek subject to California regulations. Artificial lures, only; no live bait.
Please take precautions against New Zealand Mud Snails, a savage invasive species that is destroying every California stream fishery it reaches.
Please obey stream closures. The segment of stream through the field station between the USGS gauging station and the campground is closed to all fishing. This unmanipulated, un-fished stream section is used by California Fish & Wildlife for baseline biomass monitoring which helps establish healthy levels of fish stocks for other streams in California.
There are often active experiments underway in this stretch as well, like a project comparing and studying interactions between endangered Lahontan cutthroat trout and introduced species like Rainbow, Brook & Brown trout.
